Civ V - Yet anotehr one and steamified
« on: August 05, 2010, 12:49:52 pm »
So looks like the next franchise is kinda cool. Lots of tweaks. And like many other titles is on steam. Not sure i like that part overly much, but it is sure better than Games for windows live (that sucks big hairy dogs balls).

This tube is the gospel, the ultimate revelation. This tube can make or break presidents, popes, prime ministers. This tube is the most awesome goddamn force in the whole godless world. And woe is us if it ever falls into the hands of the wrong people.

I <3 Civ.  Nothing pisses me off more than Xerxes dropping the bomb on my ass.

Best franchise in gaming. Even the extensions like Colonization (the original) and Alpha Centauri.

I'm pumped.

I love these games, but man can they make an entire day feel like an hour.

Get your priorities straight Dirk!   :P

My only excuse is taking a month off for paternity leave, so I'm all for a turn based game to suck up my time (god knows RTS or online isn't conducive with a little one)

So Thoughts on this one guys and gals?

Played a couple games aint won any yet (though one game i am about 5x more powerful than anyone else)

Pro's
ooks nice
new feel to combat i like it. Specialy ranged attacks. though i think some are a tad OP.
I like the way happines is now Civ based not on a / city basis.
Free states or whatever they are called are actually really good to keep. By the time you have 5+ of them all allied or friendly you are building up a lot of bonuses.

On the fence:
Civ tiles and the way borders expand. Good an bad about this.

Bugs / Issues
Dont like the stuff  you can really do with Great people. the Buildings / stuff you could do with them in civ 4 were better. Seems all they are good for now is to just make anotehr Golden age. Oh and those are easy to get... i have had like 6 of them so far.
Units with actions left dont cycle properly.
Cant move stacked units together (General + Guard unit or Worker + Guard etc)
AI is REALLY stupid at lower levels. Enemy Civ's literally stop doing anything. In my most advanced game in circa 1400's i have one civ that literally only ever built 1 city. Their is no other civ near it nor any Free states.
Default action for automated workers is to build trade outposts everywhere lol.
CAnt sort by science in city info window lol... nice bug that one.
No default Que for buildings like Alpha Century had. PLEASE bring this back i get sick of adding the same order of buildings to my cites.
No Automated governor for cities i own (like puppet cities essentially have)

Things to work out... how do i transport my troops safely? Seems to be a bloody mission to accomplish sea invasions (pangea games anyone?)
